As with all sources the disadvantages must also be considered. One of the biggest disadvantages is that it is not completely clean as an energy source. The disadvantages while the advantages of biomass are numerous it is not a perfect energy source. Biomass occurs in the form of living or recently living plants and waste.

This is crucial if they are to be confronted properly in order to allow biomass energy to work for the people who need it. Burning wood and other trees cause pollution in the environment similar to the emissions of coal and other resources. A great deal of land and water are needed for some biomass crops to be produced and when they have grown the product requires a large amount of storage room before being converted into energy. This is much more efficient than using fossil fuels which are rapidly running out and take millions of years to regenerate.

One of the disadvantages of biomass energy is the amount of space that it requires. The carbon dioxide that is absorbed by the plants during the photosynthesis is recycled back to the atmosphere once they are decomposed. Biomass energy is not as efficient as fossil fuels some biofuels like ethanol is relatively inefficient as compared to gasoline. But it does create emissions other than carbon.

It is believed that the most important advantage of biomass energy is the neutral carbon content. This means that it will never run out because we create it ourselves.
